Thanks to the generosity of the Big Lottery Fund, over four consecutive Fridays last term EEW ran workshops with each year group, covering a range of sustainability issues including:
“Lightbulbs – What Are Your Options?”, “Warm Homes” and “Sustainable Food”.
The children were encouraged to participate in various activities, such as measuring the energy usage of and temperature emitted from different types of lightbulbs, insulating a cardboard house to improve its thermal efficiency, and thinking about where different foods may be grown and how transportation, packaging and food waste all contribute to global greenhouse gas production.
The children were enthusiastic about their tasks and a delight to engage with.
EEW completed their workshops with an open session for parents to illustrate what the children had been doing, and took the opportunity to provide more in-depth information on energy saving tips and products. For those who were unable to attend that session, parents were encouraged to visit EEW’s stall at the Widcombe Street Party.
